Coasters - Green/Light Green - Set of 4 - optional oak coaster stand
£38.00 - £43.00
A set of 4 handmade fused glass coasters in a green and light green colour based on leaves from a Jasmine, Briar Rose and Fern plants and a pressed flower head with optional coaster stand made from oak.
These are available in other colours, please see my other listings.
The coasters are suitable for holding any glass or hot beverage. They have silicon bumper stops on the bottom to prevent slips and scratches to furniture. To clean them I recommend a soft cloth/sponge and warm soapy water. Please do not put them in a dishwasher.
The size of each coaster is approximately: 9.5 x 9.5cm
Assembling all materials between two sheets of clear glass I use the leaves with combinations of copper powder and glass powders (frits). These are then put into the kiln at temperatures above 800 degrees centigrade to produce the fused piece. Each piece is then cold-worked to grind off any sharp edges before returning to the kiln for a final fire polish to ensure an all-round glassy finish. Glass always has to be carefully annealed (cooled) to prevent a build-up of stress in order to ensure it is strong and stable and I have carefully worked out fusing programmes on my kilns for different thicknesses of glass.
In all my pieces where I use copper, this is painted on to the glass with a paintbrush as I like the direction and texture the brushstrokes give. Sometimes I follow the line of the leaves but I often have a focal point from which I paint, I like to think it’s a bit like the big bang where all matter emanated from a single point with the leaf in the foreground.
The optional oak coaster stand is made by husband, the wood sourced from a local sawmill. The stand is finished with a light coating of hard wearing Chestnut finishing oil. Wood is a natural product and no two pieces are the same, as such there may be variations in texture, knots, grain and colour.
Where I make more than one of a design, due to the handmade process and the nature of using organic matter, there may be slight differences in size, colour, texture and design, from piece to piece. While I try to ensure they are as consistent as possible, it will always mean that each piece is unique and while every effort is made to accurately represent the colours when photographed, please be aware that different monitors may display the colours differently.
