Fern Frond Heart - Red, Pink or Pink/Violet
I’ve made hearts for a number of years and have been refining the process as I go along and now use Nichrome wire for the hanging loops, which is much easier than drilling holes. I really enjoy cutting something that doesn’t involve any straight edges for a change and love the organic curves of hearts, it takes me back to my stained glass days when I first started working with glass where there was rarely a straight line in sight apart from the edges of the window!
This item contains one heart shaped suncatcher, currently available in three colours:
Pink and Copper oxide: the copper creates tiny turquoise bubbles most visible in the leaf shape.
Pink and Violet enamel: the violet enamel gives the pink a slightly darker tint.
Each piece is made by hand using actual leaves. Assembling all materials between two sheets of clear glass I used the organic matter with combinations of copper oxide, violet enamel and glass powders (frits). A Nichrome wire loop is used between the sheets of glass to enable the piece to be hung. These are then put into the kiln at temperatures above 800 degrees centigrade to produce the fused piece. Each piece is then cold worked before returning to the kiln for a final fire polish.
The size of each heart is approximately 8cm x 8cm, the length of the ribbon/organza ribbon is 10cm.
