Flower Head Ring - Trinket Dish: Choice of Colours

£25.00

Handmade fused glass ring dish in a blue / aqua colour based on a flower head.

I was given this flowerhead as part of a commission a few years ago, it has such beautiful, distinct shapes and luckily is very robust so I can continue to use it in my designs.

In a lot of my pieces I paint the copper onto the glass with a paintbrush as I like the direction and texture the brushstrokes give. Sometimes I follow the line of the leaves but I often have a focal point from which I paint, I like to think it’s a bit like the big bang where all matter emanated from a single point with the leaf in the foreground.

Item dimensions are approximately: 11cm (w) x 11cm (d) x 1.5cm (h)

Assembling all materials between two sheets of clear glass I use the leaves with combinations of copper powder and glass powders (frits). These are then put into the kiln at temperatures above 800 degrees centigrade to produce the fused piece. Each piece is then cold-worked to grind off any sharp edges before returning to the kiln for a final fire polish to ensure an all-round glassy finish and these ring dishes are also slumped to make bowls at the same time. Glass always has to be carefully annealed (cooled) to prevent a build-up of stress in order to ensure it is strong and stable and I have carefully worked out fusing programmes on my kilns for different thicknesses of glass.

Where I make more than one of a design, due to the handmade process and the nature of using organic matter, there may be slight differences in size, colour, texture and design, from piece to piece. While I try to ensure they are as consistent as possible, it will always mean that each piece is unique and while every effort is made to accurately represent the colours when photographed, please be aware that different monitors may display the colours differently.
